THE WHITE RANCH
Certified Sustainable Green Farming
The White Ranch is a leader in environmental stewardship and progressive eco-friendly sustainable agricultural practices. As quiet visionaries the White family has purchased properties with unlimited development potential and shockingly set them aside for preservation.
These vast areas serve as needed wildlife corridors and habitats, protecting threatened and endangered species, as well as, recharging Florida's aquifer, providing clean fresh drinking water for everyone.
The White's pristine forests and lush green wetlands create a huge carbon sink, absorbing more than 1 million metric tonnes of carbon dioxide from the Earth's atmosphere.
The White Ranch is a legacy holding of the La Chua Barony, founded circa 1646. The land’s history stretches back to 1539, when Spanish conquistadors first explored North America and encamped in Micanopy.
In 1568, the Spanish king granted Pedro Menéndez de Áviles, the founder of St. Augustine, this property as part of his royal commission to conquer and settle the vast region of North America.
The red and white flag of the Cross of Burgundy, the symbol of Hapsburg Spain, was the first to fly over this Florida land.
The Menéndez Márquez Cattle Barony at La Chua is included on Florida's earliest interior property map in 1763, after the British took control following the Seven Years’ War.
These fertile grazing lands, spanning the Black Sink and Paynes Prairie, have been prized for over 400 years.
Today, these lands are recognized as some of the oldest continuously operated ranches and farmland in North America.
The W Shield is the registered brand the White Ranch.
The White Ranch is currently working with The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Healthy from Florida program and participating with the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences to promote improved breeds of cattle.
